Mountains in Kłodzko means five small hills between 320 and 431 metres, in town and in the Bardzkie Mountains. Here is what to expect.
Which hills lie in Kłodzko and right next to it?
These are hills, not peaks for a full-day trek. All five are tagged as free, nature and views. Szyndzielnia is the highest at 431 metres above sea level, in the Bardzkie Mountains, about 2.8 kilometres east of the centre. The summit is built of Lower Carboniferous greywacke, and higher up grows a small mixed forest. A 19th-century lookout tower stands on top, but it cannot be entered.
Wzgórze Marii, also called Mariańska Górka, is 365 metres high and lies in the same Bardzkie Mountains. Within a few kilometres you will find the Kłodzko Fortress, the Underground Tourist Route and the Museum of the Kłodzko Land.
Which hill can you climb near the market square?
Forteczna Góra, also known as Zamkowa, is 369 metres high and lies about 300 metres north-west of the market square. It rises roughly 70 metres above its surroundings and is occupied by the fortifications of the Kłodzko Fortress, visible in the town panorama. Three slopes are gentle, the fourth, facing the Nysa Kłodzka, is steep. The western one is covered by a park of deciduous trees.
Szpitalna Górka is about 320 metres high and lies in Ustronie, in the northern part of town. A municipal brickworks used to stand here, and today meadows and fields cover the top and slopes. Krzyżna Góra in the south-east of town stands just under 326 metres. To be frank: sources describe no sights, viewpoint or trail on it, and it should not be confused with the Krzyżna Góra in the Rudawy Janowickie.
How do the hills fit into a visit to town?
Treat them as an addition to a walk. All these places cost nothing, so also see the full list of free attractions in Kłodzko, and with children check For families. For a trip on your own the Solo page helps. The whole town is in Kłodzko attractions, and other peaks are under mountains across the region. Further out lie Lądek-Zdrój and Stronie Śląskie.
