What to do in Kłodzko when it rains? Tunnels, a museum, a pool, a library and play rooms. Places to sit out the weather.
Where in Kłodzko can you go underground when it rains?
The safest choice is the Underground Tourist Route. It is about 700 metres long, has a dozen or so themed rooms about the town's history, and runs entirely under the old town, away from rain and sun. It opened to visitors in 1976. Cellars under Kłodzko were extended from the 13th century, so a whole network of linked rooms waits below.
Above it lies the Kłodzko Fortress, built from the Middle Ages to the 18th century, today a museum where you explore not only bastions but also kilometres of underground corridors.
Which museums and cultural places in Kłodzko are under a roof?
The Museum of the Kłodzko Land has occupied a former Jesuit convict since 1971. The museum opened on 1 May 1963, first in the commandant's palace by the market square, but subsiding medieval cellars forced a move. Its collections cover coins, pewter craft, Silesian mechanical clocks and contemporary art glass. Another rainy-day place is the County and Town Public Library in the town hall building on Bolesław Chrobry Square. It was founded in 1946, holds about 100,000 items and has a separate Regional Knowledge Centre, including about 3,000 regional volumes in German. Of the nearly 92,000 books, 96 percent are in Polish, so it is also a place for quiet reading while it pours outside.
What to do with children when it pours?
Yellow Park in the Twierdza Kłodzko gallery is a play room supervised by animators, at Noworudzka 2, next to the Multikino. Senso Gaj on Wiosenna Street runs sensory classes, workshops and English lessons, and day camps in summer and winter holidays. Minieuroland Miniature Park carries the rainy-day tag, but it covers about 20,000 square metres, so check on site what is sheltered before you go.
And if you simply want to swim?
The Indoor Pool on Jana Pawła II Street has sports and recreational pools, a fitness centre and a sauna complex. It works whatever the weather and lies a few hundred metres from the Fortress, so it rounds off a day of museum and tunnels well.
