Nature in Kłodzko means five hills with different geology: from schist and glacial clay to greywacke and mixed forest on Szyndzielnia.

What are the hills of Kłodzko made of?

Szyndzielnia in the Bardzkie Mountains, 431 metres high, consists of Lower Carboniferous greywacke, conglomerate and clay shale. Higher up, the slopes are covered by glacial till and deluvial deposits. Szpitalna Górka is about 320 metres high and is built of metamorphic schist covered by a thick layer of Pleistocene deposits, mainly glacial clay. Glacial clays were once used as ceramic raw material, and a municipal brickworks operated on the hill.

What grows on the hills around Kłodzko?

The slopes of Szyndzielnia above 370 metres and the summit itself are covered by a small mixed forest. On Forteczna Góra the western slope is occupied by a park of deciduous trees, while the hill has a flattened, weakly marked summit and rises about 70 metres above its surroundings. On Szpitalna Górka meadows and fields cover the top and slopes today, and a few farm buildings stand at the foot on Półwiejska Street.

Where to go from this list, and what not to expect?

Wzgórze Marii is 365 metres high and lies in the Bardzkie Mountains, in the Central Sudetes, near the bigger Kłodzko attractions: the Fortress, the Underground Tourist Route and the Museum of the Kłodzko Land. Krzyżna Góra is just under 326 metres in the south-east of town. Sources describe no sights, viewpoint or trail there, so it is an ordinary urban rise, not a mountain peak. It is worth knowing this in advance to avoid disappointment on site, especially as it should not be confused with Krzyżna Góra in the Rudawy Janowickie.

Every place is free, as you can check on the free attractions list. The hills together are described under Mountains in Kłodzko, and a solo walk among them can be planned from the Solo page. Nature elsewhere is in nature across the region, and the whole town in Kłodzko attractions. Further out lie Szczytna and Stronie Śląskie.
