Wałbrzych for couples offers a winter garden, a theatre, viewpoints and downtown squares. Here is how to build a day or evening together.

Where can two people take a walk?

Start in the centre. The Market Square is the oldest square in town, with 18th-century houses. A baroque town hall stood in its middle from 1731 to 1853, and today a fountain from the 1996 reconstruction marks the spot. Not far away lies Magistracki Square. It appeared in 1854 as Kaiser Wilhelm Platz, historic buildings surround it, and car traffic has been limited since the 2013-2014 rebuild. Further on is Grunwaldzki Square, smaller and more urban: where Aleja Wyzwolenia meets four streets, tram, trolleybus and bus lines have long crossed, and a covered river runs beneath. The square links the districts of Podgórze, Nowe Miasto and Biały Kamień. Each of these squares carries the "Dla par" (for couples) tag, but they work best as stops along the way.

Where can you see the city from above?

The Góra Parkowa viewpoint is 508 m above sea level in Jan III Sobieski Park. From it you see the Stary Zdrój district and the towers of Książ Castle. The viewpoint by Różanka is another lookout in the Wałbrzych Mountains, near the Książ castle complex. Both are free and fit the end of a day well.

Where can you shelter among plants under glass?

The Palm House on Wrocławska Street is a winter garden built in 1911-1913 for Prince Henryk XV von Pless, owner of Książ Castle. Several hundred plant species from different climate zones grow under the glass roof, the walls are lined with volcanic tuff from Mount Etna, and there is a bonsai exhibition. It has been a listed monument since 1994. It lies close to Książ Castle, so the two visits combine easily.

What to do in the evening when it rains?

The Jerzy Szaniawski Drama Theatre runs a current repertoire for audiences of different ages, and on its website you can reserve and buy tickets online. It also has an "Accessible Theatre" section with information for people with disabilities. By Theatre Square stand the theatre, an amphitheatre and a sports hall, and the square hosts summer concerts and open-air cinema screenings. It is one of the points you pass when heading from the centre towards the surrounding hills. A calmer option is the Pod Atlantami Library in a historic house at Market Square 9, open since 1945. The house is called Pod Czterema Atlantami (Under the Four Atlases), which gave the library its name. Residents of the city and county use its collections.

Other ideas for a day together are beautiful views, a rainy day plan and free attractions. The whole city is on attractions in Wałbrzych, and regional ideas are in attractions for couples in Lower Silesia.
