Which peaks and viewpoints cost nothing?

Most free destinations are in the hills. Barbarka is 635 m above sea level and holds remains of an 18th-century coal mine and of a lookout tower from 1905-1925. Zamkowa Góra (618 m) carries the ruins of Nowy Dwór castle, and the hill itself is a cone with a flat top. Lisi Kamień (613 m) shows traces of old silver ore mining, and Ptasia Kopa (590 m) is a steep peak with marks of early mining. Quieter are Czarnuszka (562 m) and Czarnota (526 m), which sit on the same ridge of the Wałbrzych Mountains.

If you do not want to walk far, choose a viewpoint. Góra Parkowa is 508 m high and is the tallest hill in Jan III Sobieski Park, between the Śródmieście, Nowe Miasto and Stary Zdrój districts. From the top you see Stary Zdrój and the towers of Książ Castle. The viewpoint by Różanka lies in the Wałbrzych Mountains, near the Książ castle complex. Both also carry the "Dla par" (for couples) tag.

Where can you take a free walk among greenery?

Czettritz Park in the city centre was laid out in 1886. It covers about 5 hectares, is listed as a monument, holds around 70 species of trees and shrubs, and the Czettritz palace stands next door. Rusinowa Municipal Park, from the 1930s, is larger: it has outdoor sculptures, two ponds and an impressive 19th-century gate, and has been regenerated since 2018. The wildest option is the Przełomy pod Książem reserve, created in 2000. It protects the rocky valleys of the Pełcznica and Szczawnik streams near Książ Castle.

Which monuments and memorial sites can you see without a ticket?

The Ayrton Senna monument is a life-size bronze sculpture unveiled in 2021 on the street that bears his name. The driver sits on a Formula 1 tyre, and the statue stands next to the Museum of Mining and Motorsport. The Mausoleum in Wałbrzych is different in character. It is a partly ruined cenotaph from 1936-1938 commemorating fallen Silesians, now under emergency conservation. Despite the name it contains no burials, because a cenotaph is an empty tomb.

How do you plan a free day?

Combine one peak with a park and a monument in town: head for the hills in the morning, come down to the centre in the afternoon and finish on Góra Parkowa. Check the route and trail markings before setting out, because the peaks are reached by mountain paths. More views are on beautiful views in Wałbrzych, and the full range of peaks under mountains. Everything for the city is on attractions in Wałbrzych, and free places across the region are in free attractions in Lower Silesia.
